Private Goju Ryu lessons

One-on-one karate, at your pace.

Private sessions at the Tweed Heads South Honbu Dojo, taught directly by Sensei Sam. The class is built around you: your level, your goals, your body, and the things you want to get right before stepping into a group room. Adults and kids welcome.

Who it suits

When one-on-one is the right call.

Group classes are the default at Yushukan. Private sessions are a deliberate choice for specific situations.

Refining technique

Existing students working on a specific kata, application or grading requirement, with a Sensei watching closely and adjusting in real time.

Returning students

You trained years ago and want focused attention to rebuild fundamentals before joining a regular class. We rebuild the foundation first.

Anxiety or self-consciousness

Some students need a few private sessions to find their footing before they are comfortable in a group room. That is a normal way to start.

Focused goal training

A specific event, grading or skill you want to prepare for. We set the goal, plan the sessions, and measure progress.

What we cover

Real karate, taught directly.

  • Kihon: stances, strikes, blocks and kicks at your level.
  • Ido geiko (moving basics) and pad work for accuracy and intent.
  • Kata and bunkai, studied for understanding rather than performance.
  • Sanchin posture and breath work, paced to your body.
  • Yakusoku kumite and controlled, grade-appropriate sparring when ready.
How it works

A short conversation first.

Most students benefit from group training first. If private lessons are right for you, we have a short conversation about goals, history and any injuries, then we agree on a schedule and rate that fit. Sessions run at the Tweed Heads South Honbu Dojo at 3/58 Machinery Drive.

If you are brand new to Yushukan, we will usually point you to the 3-week Karate Ready program first. It is the cleanest, lowest-pressure way to find out whether the dojo is the right home for you.
