What does karate cost in Australia?
Most martial arts schools will not tell you what they charge until you have booked a trial class. We do the opposite. This page covers what Yushukan charges, what Australian parents on Reddit report paying elsewhere, and the hidden costs to ask about at any dojo before you sign anything.
Yushukan, published in full.
Every new student starts with Karate Ready: $99 for 3 weeks, or $90 each for two or more family members. After the Week 4 readiness check, students who continue choose one of three term packages.

Yushukan trains 40 weeks per year, structured as four 10-week terms. Term breaks align with the NSW Department of Education school holiday calendar. Annual membership is $75 per person, due by June 30. Grading is $75 per belt, when the student is ready (typically not more than twice per year for beginners). No registration fee, no joining fee.
How Yushukan compares to other Australian schools
Real numbers Australian parents and adults have posted publicly. These benchmarks are not endorsements, just reference points so you can decide.
Yushukan Basic at $200 per 10-week term sits at or below the published Australian range. Yushukan Accelerate at $450 per term gives you unlimited classes, where the adult BJJ rate at the same price typically gives two sessions per week. We are not the cheapest dojo in Australia. We are price-transparent, and we publish.
The 4-week mutual gate.
Most schools lock you into a multi-month or annual contract on day one. Yushukan does not. After Karate Ready and the Week 4 readiness check, you enter a 10-week term with a 4-week mutual gate built in. During that gate, either side can walk. No explanation needed, no exit fee, no guilt. If Yushukan is not the right fit, we would rather find out at Week 4 than have you grind through a contract you do not want.
State voucher programs.
- Active Kids NSW Accepted
Up to $100 per eligible child per year for sport and active recreation. Apply your voucher to Karate Ready or to ongoing term fees.
- FairPlay QLD Confirm at booking
Acceptance for NSW-based dojos pending confirmation. Ask when you book.
- KidSport WA Not applicable
Not applicable. Yushukan does not run classes in WA.
Mention your voucher when you book and we will confirm the redemption process.
Hidden costs to ask any martial arts school about.
Australian parents on Reddit consistently flag the same blind spots that turn an advertised low price into something much higher. Ask any dojo, including ours, before you sign anything.
If a dojo cannot answer these plainly, that is your answer to whether their pricing is transparent. Read the full how to choose a karate dojo checklist for the wider trust picture.
